From old vines planted in 1953 on limestone soils marked by veins of black manganese, giving the wine a strong mineral character.

Clos des Vignes du Maynes
Mâconnais, Bourgogne, France

One of the oldest biodynamic estates in Bourgogne, Clos des Vignes du Maynes has been farmed organically since 1954. Julien Guillot continues the family legacy with meticulous vineyard work and minimal intervention in the cellar. The wines are pure expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from limestone soils.
Julien Guillot is a face of youth and renewal for the Mâconnais. He started working in 1998 on his family's estate, starting its conversion to biodynamics, and finally taking over the reins in 2001.
Founded by monks in 910, the Clos has never ceased to make wine ever since. In 1952 his grandfather Pierre took over the Clos, which has never seen the use of chemicals, and has always been cultivated with the greatest respect for the earth. Working without herbicides was clearly a commitment on his grandfather's part. His father Alain inherited that philosophy and was actually the leader of a team that created the rules and the logo of Organic Agriculture in France.
Julien thus grew up in an environment where caring for nature was a matter of tradition. Today, that approach allows Julien to produce impeccable fruit, vinified with semi-carbonic maceration, and matured in wood casks and vats that have seen several wines. His cuvées receive little to no sulphur at bottling. All is done with a single goal in mind: creating wines as cheerful and pleasant as can be.
